Relocating From Phoenix for Intel? Verify School Boundaries, Then Decide Rent vs. Buy
The zip code sells the house. The boundary decides your routine. I'm Jared West, Realtor here in Columbus and Central Ohio, and this is the single most common assumption I have to correct with relocating buyers before they write an offer.
A Mailing Address Is Not a School District
A New Albany mailing address does not automatically mean New Albany schools. A Columbus mailing address can sit inside a suburban district. Boundaries shift, sometimes in ways that aren't obvious from a listing site or even from driving the neighborhood. The only way to know for certain is to verify the assigned school for that specific address — not the neighborhood's general reputation, and not what the listing agent tells you casually in a showing.
If private school is part of your plan, that adds another layer. Many relocating buyers weigh public and private options side by side, and the commute math changes again once you're routing two different directions before Intel even factors into the equation. That's worth mapping out before you pick a neighborhood, not after.
Rent First, or Buy Now? Here's How I'd Think About It
Rent first if your start date is soft, your Phoenix home hasn't sold yet, or you've never spent real time in Central Ohio. Renting lowers your commitment. It doesn't remove your risk — but it buys you time to actually experience a full season here before you commit to a specific community.
Buy now if your role is stable, your timeline is set, and you already know which two or three communities genuinely fit your household. Waiting doesn't add value if you already have the information you need to decide. I'd rather build your plan six months early than watch you rush into a house six days before your first shift.
If Your Phoenix Home Hasn't Sold Yet
Don't assume renting is your only option. Ask about bridge financing or a sale-contingent offer before you rule out buying now. It may not be off the table the way you think it is — but it needs to be structured correctly, and that's a conversation worth having early rather than discovering the option too late.
Start With a Plan, Not a Listing Scroll
If you're relocating from Phoenix for Intel, don't start by scrolling listings. Start with a plan — one that compares commutes, verifies school boundaries, and narrows your community options before you ever tour a house. Call or text me at 614-633-7119, or email jared.west@westrealestateexperts.com, and tell me you're coming from Phoenix for Intel. We'll build your relocation plan before you pick the house.
