Central Ohio Schools and Intel Commutes: What to Verify Before You Buy
A district name and a drive-time estimate are a starting point. They are not enough to choose a house. In my Central Ohio school-district video, I compared several places buyers ask about near the Intel corridor. The useful question is what you need to verify for the specific address you might buy.
Start With the Actual Destination
If your move involves Intel, a supplier, or another employer near New Albany and Johnstown, confirm your reporting location, access gate, shift, and expected in-person schedule with that employer. A major project announcement does not establish your job location or start date. Build your search around your own employment details.
Compare the Same Things
The video discusses New Albany-Plain Local, Granville Exempted Village, Johnstown-Monroe, Southwest Licking, Big Walnut, and Olentangy. Those districts provide a useful research list, not a ranking of which community you should choose. Start a worksheet with one row per actual property and separate columns for district, assigned building, programs you want to investigate, commute, and total ownership costs.
Read Beyond the Headline Rating
Open the Ohio School Report Cards and record the reporting year. A district-wide result and an individual high school's score describe different things. An achievement component is also different from an overall rating. Do not compare those numbers as though they were interchangeable. Review the underlying measures and ask the school about the services, coursework, and activities relevant to your student.
Verify the Parcel and the Building
Check the county auditor's parcel record, then confirm the address and grade-level building directly with the district's enrollment office. Ask about adopted attendance changes and their effective dates. A mailing city alone does not establish enrollment, and a building reassignment within a district is different from a district boundary change.
Measure the Commute From the Front Door
Use each listing's address, your real work entrance, and your actual travel times. Test both directions on representative weekdays. Keep the route and time assumptions beside every estimate. A drive from a high school in a district is a reference point; it is not the commute from every home in that district.
Make the Decision With a Complete Budget
Compare taxes, insurance quotes, HOA charges, any special assessments, and maintenance alongside the purchase price. Then weigh those costs against the time you would spend driving. You choose which school information and daily-life priorities matter. My role is to help you verify property facts and compare homes without turning a single score into a decision for you.
